April

What an amazing month March turned out to be, we celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary for an entire week, starting of at Le Meridien Al Aqah and finishing at Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa, with a trip to Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Emirates Golf Club inbetween!!  The weather has finally broken and we are experiencing a rise in temperatures, it's no secret I prefer the hotter months over the cooler ones. It's Easter this month, so I hope the Easter Bunny is really kind to you all. Have a fabulous month wherever are you are.

Last week I was invited to a Tea Party in honour of a new e-commerce website that has now launched in the UAE.  What was so nice about this event was that it wasn't a press conference but more of an informal get together of Mums who were given a preview of the site, and were able to meet the owner and share their thoughts about Mumzworld.

Firstly I must thank Mona and the rest of the team at Mumzworld for putting together such an interesting morning.

Mumzworld is basically an on-line shop which targets Mums and Children.  They have literally 100's of brands to choose from, easy payment methods, free delivery on orders over 200 dhs, and a risk free returns service.  They currently have over 18,000 products to choose from.

BUT, the best thing about Mumzworld is that you can set up a gift registry list, of things your children like, you can even let the children do it themselves and then your family members can access this list from anywhere in the world, order on line, pay on-line and then have the gifts delivered to your door!! This is something that has been missing in the UAE and I think Mumzworld will find that their site will be a huge success.

What you waiting for! register with them now via this link.

is to diet!  it's one of those things that we put the back of our minds or start one in January and then fall of the wagon before you even got the middle of the month. For the last four years (at least) I have not been happy with my physical appearance, you might think that odd considering the work I do with House of Colour but it's the truth. House of Colour gave me my confidence back to accept who I am as a woman but it didn't really stop me feeling fat.

The last few months have been lousy due to a back injury which I am not going to bore you all with, but it basically left me housebound.  On the 1st of September, I decided that enough was enough (again) and started on a diet.   I didn't do it alone I have been surrounded by a very special group of women who shall remain anonymous but they have all been fantastic.  I honestly don't believe you can do it on your own, you need to the support of family and friends to embark on what can sometimes be a miserable and disheartening time.

I dragged out all my Slimming World books, magazines and diet plan and started to concentrate on losing some weight.  The first month was tough and I got by with the aid of a curly wurly mosts nights which helped my sweet craving.  I no longer bother with that as my body is now used to having no chocolate, though I do have the odd nibble of some dark chocolate.  Anyway basically with alot of determination, coupled with a slight loss of appetite following a horrific experience with a needle, an Anaesthetist and a local hospital, I woke up a few weeks ago to find that I had reached my original goal weight loss, which was a 10 kg loss.

All I want to say is that YOU can do it if you WANT to do it, it won't be easy but if you really want to get back to the weight you were, sit yourself down and tell yourself that you will do it!!   One thing that kept me going was saying to myself when tempted, do you really want that pizza? or do you really want to be thin? the answer was the latter one.

Another good thing was that Nkd Pizza actually don't deliver in my area!!! (but if you do fancy one, they are the healthiest of the lot)

Good luck everyone YOU CAN DO IT!!

Yesterday I was invited for lunch by the Singapore International Culinary Exchange, or as it is better known SPICE.  As some of you are aware I have been pretty much housebound recently so I was rather excited about this event which was  held in Seven Sands at the World Trade Centre.  It must be 10 years since I was in the World Trade Centre.  The traffic was a bit of a nightmare due to Gulfood taking place at the Exhibition Centre but I got there and met up with the Fooderati Twitterati, who all had fabulous flashy cameras and notepads, me being me had a small bright pink leather hand bag, an iPhone and a new lipstick.

We all took our places and were given a brief introduction to SPICE, which is "An international gastronomic initiative collaboratively fronted by International Enterprise Singapore, Singapore Tourism Board and SPRING Singapore. Its mission is to establish Singapore as a global innovative culinary capital and a must-visit food destination, raise international awareness of their most celebrated and exciting culinary names, and make Singapore food an integral part of the global food scene"

Singaporean Chef Haikal Johari and Jordanian cheft Khalel Mustafa went on to present us with some amazing food.  Haikal started with a scallop carpaccion, with fois gras mousse and Yuzu foam, followed by Lamb with Rendang, Tamarind Jus and Spicey Cabbage followed by a Singapore Sling "deconstructed".  I have never eaten Singaporean food before so this was a real treat for me, and it definitely won't be the last time I try out Singaporean food. I am on a one woman mission to find some small back street cafe as a comparison to five star fine dining with Chef Haikal. Chef Khalel Mustafa presented us with Pan-Seared Sea Bass and Prawns and "Kuay" pie tee.

The event was well organised, beautifully presented and I can safely say thoroughly enjoyed by all of us who attended it. Through SPICE I have a new passion in finding out more about Singapore and the culinary delights it has to offer, and I mean more than just opening a packet of noodles!  Yet again there was no Dinner made that evening in CASA GA ...

I dedicate this article to @sally2hats @the_hedonista @inafryingpan @girleeannyen and the guy who isn't on Twitter, and if he does join can I suggest he uses the ID @notontwitter

My personal facebook page has always been in the name of my alter ego, Geordie Armani. In January of 2011 I launched this very website and at that time I honestly had no idea that it would be successful and had visions of it ceasing to exist after a few months! I however was very wrong and it has gone from strength to strength thanks to you my loyal readers.

Over the last 12 months I have received hundreds of friend requests on Facebook from people who read this site and possibly follow me on twitter.  I haven't accepted all these facebook requests as I have tried to keep my facebook page for family and close friends. I toyed with the idea of setting up a separate page for Geordie Armani a while back but to be very honest with you all, I didn't want to come over as being pretentious in anyway.  People who know me in the real world know and understand how I feel about "Geordie Armani", one of these days I might share that with you all.

So in this ever changing world of social media and self promotion a page has been set up to enable me to direct people to it who have an interest in the website. You will notice that there is a different logo, I am in the process of rebranding the entire site, which should happen in the next few weeks, this logo is a temporary one.  As you are aware I don't have comments enabled on this site, but you will be able to ask all your questions via the Facebook page.  You can of course always follow me on Twitter, I am always tweeting.

Thanks for all your support it is greatly appreciated.

For those of us who are parents we all know how hard it is see our little ones in any kind of pain or discomfort.  Well it turns out that one of Mitten's baby teeth just wasn't going to come out and her adult tooth was pushing up under it causing her some pain, so much pain that she actually asked to go to the Dentist, so we went this morning.

When I say we, I mean all three of us, there was no chance this was going to be a little trip to the Dentist with Mum, nope Dad had to come out of work, it was a real real drama.  We arrived at Dr Michael's Dental Clinic just before 11 am, filled in the appropriate paperwork and then we were introduced to the Dentist, Dr Alexander.  Then the real drama set in, tears, flailing legs, sobbing chest.  Even my favourite Sean the Sheep video on the screen didn't seem to help! Eventually and injection was adminstered and the offending tooth removed.  It was off to Choithrams for a treat, which turned out to be flowers so I am definitely not complaining about that.

Before we had even got home Mitten was bragging about how easy it was and that she would now like some braces ..... yes?  doubt it very much!

I would just like to thank all the team down at Dr Michael's Dental Clinic for managing to get us an appointment so quickly, and then for sorting Mitten out so professionally and of course patiently.  You have a really nice clinic there, and I hear there is a new Paediatric Dentistry Unit opening later this year, I hope it all works out well.  (there are already Paediatric Dentists at Dr Michael's though).

You can find out more information about both their clinics by clicking on their website here.
